The 2022 Maine Flower Show

To our Fans and Friends:

As we did in 2020 and again in 2021, the Maine Landscape & Nursery Association has been closely monitoring guidance from federal, state, and local public health officials in order to make the best possible decision regarding the Maine Flower Show in 2022.

We take this responsibility very seriously; not only is the MFS the single largest event that MELNA holds–historically attracting more than 20,000 people and over 100 vendors to Thompson’s Point each year–but it is also the single largest event that promotes our industry, showcases our work, and grows our businesses.

The Executive Committee has considered the measures required to safely accommodate all attendees based on current public health guidance. Ultimately, we made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the Maine Flower Show in 2022. In lieu of the MFS, MELNA is producing a new event: The Maine Garden + Marketplace.

The Maine Garden + Marketplace is a three-day indoor market for gardeners of all experience levels to get an early start on spring garden planning and supplies, happening March 25-27, 2022. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with, learn from and commerce with over 100 garden supply and services merchants within the comfort and convenience of Brick South at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. Official event information will be available on www.mainegardenplusmarketplace.com.

While the Maine Garden + Marketplace is not the event we all know and love, it nonetheless provides an important opportunity for the gardening community to safely gather at a more manageable scale and with significantly reduced risk.

We appreciate your understanding and hope you will join us for the Maine Garden + Marketplace in 2022.

Thank you for your continued support.

5. Will there be display gardens and awards at the Maine Garden + Marketplace?

No, the Maine Garden + Marketplace will not feature our signature display garden competition and awards. We hope to bring back these events as the centerpiece of the Maine Flower Show in 2023, if conditions permit.

6.  What can I expect to do at the Maine Garden + Marketplace?

Guests can expect to view and purchase items from independent garden centers, nurseries; as well as other products from garden and yard related products from small businesses. Guests will be able to talk with professionals and discuss new ideas for their gardens and property.

7.  What public health safety precautions can we expect?

The Maine Garden + Marketplace will adhere to all CDC guidelines that are in place as of March 25-27, 2022. We are closely following updates from federal, state, and local public health officials to protect the health and safety of attendees, vendors, volunteers, and members. Precautions being put in place include:
Having sanitation stations throughout the show and training for staff and volunteers.
Adding additional measures to increase cleaning and sanitation practices, including hiring an additional porter tasked only with wiping down hard surfaces.
Invoke a “No Contact” policy for show personnel. This means no shaking hands with each other or the public, no hugging, etc.
Sharing regular updates with all audiences across email, social media and local news.

8.  Are reservations required?

Reservations are NOT required. But guests may want to purchase advance tickets to avoid lines at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased online or at selected retail garden centers throughout southern Maine. The cost of admission will be $17 for General Admission and $12 for Seniors and Veterans. Children under the age of 12 are free. Information for advanced sales may be found at www.mainegardenplusmarketplace.com

9.  Will there be shuttles and offsite parking?

Free onsite parking will be available at Thompson’s Point and included in the price of an admission ticket. There will be no shuttle service to/from offsite parking.
